Healing Comes When You Stop Fighting the Process

The Unexpected Practice that Helps Healing

As I sit down to reflect on my life today, I realize how different it is. My house is quiet. The only sound is the click of my keys as I type. I feel calm, introspective, and content. It’s a world apart from how things used to be.

For many years, I lived in the fast lane as an ER doctor. My world was built on urgency. Every second counted. Quick decisions could mean the difference between life and death—gunshot wounds, heart attacks, strokes, and everything in between. Moving at a rapid pace suited me, and it matched who I was back then. The truth is that I wanted everything done yesterday because patience was never my strong suit.

But life had a lesson to teach me.

When I first began experiencing symptoms from Lyme disease, I tried to do what I had always done—push through. In hindsight, that only made things worse. The truth is, my body was trying to tell me something, but I wasn’t listening.

Everything changed when my symptoms became too loud to ignore. I was forced to stop. I had no choice but to listen.

Coming from a science background, it was hard to accept that doctors didn’t have answers. It was even harder to face the truth that this disease was taking a toll on me and there was no clear or predictable path to healing. I had to learn patience. I had to sit in the unknown. And I had to find something greater to believe in to help carry me through this challenging time.

Over time, I realized that healing isn’t a race. It isn’t about getting to the finish line as fast as possible. Healing is about embracing patience, accepting what you cannot control, and trusting that something bigger is at work.

It took me years to understand what that truly meant. My spiritual awakening didn’t mean I was giving up. It meant I was letting go of fear and releasing the need to control the outcome. I began to trust that everything was happening for me, not to me. Even the smallest, unseen steps were part of a greater plan unfolding exactly as it was meant to.

If you’re facing a physical, emotional, or mental challenge, I hope my story reminds you to give yourself grace. Healing takes time. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is to stop fighting and simply listen.

Be patient with the process. And remember—you’re not alone on this journey.
