Inner Resilience

Remember the famous saying, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?” An obstacle serves as a lesson and results in a more resilient and wiser you. In fact, after each obstacle, you become more and more equipped to say, “I can do it,” to the next obstacle. This inner confidence feeds how you interact with the outside world. Resilience also instills in you a sense of gratitude for the challenge. You welcome the obstacle and think, Bring it on. Over time, you view every obstacle as a challenge to be overcome and know that you will come out the other end with more knowledge, experience, and confidence in yourself.

This inner resilience also means that you have the integrity to take full responsibility for your thoughts and actions. Someone with inner resilience can take the emotional “hit” if reprimanded by a superior when things go wrong, and accept responsibility for failure. More importantly, that person can learn from it and become wiser because of it.

An obstacle can also serve as an awakening or major life-changing experience. Maybe you or someone you know has gone through a horrible life event and completely changed their perspective and life as a result. This is often referred to as a “spiritual awakening.” Deepak Chopra said, “Awakening is not changing who you are, but discarding who you are not.” Dr. Joe Dispenza is a chiropractor focusing on the mind-body connection. He is an international speaker and writer whose message is that every person can heal. He attributes his life and message to an accident at age twenty-four. While cycling, he was hit by a truck. This resulted in him breaking six vertebrae and being told he would never walk again. He spent hours daily using his chiropractic skills to reconstruct his vertebrae in his mind and attributes this to his becoming fully recovered in eleven weeks and walking out of the hospital. He believes that is how powerful the mind is. By working to tune your mind into what you want your body to do, you can create your reality.
