The Link Between Identity and Wisdom

The Link Between Identity and Wisdom

Identity is the evolving story we tell ourselves about who we are—our values, beliefs, experiences, and roles in the world. Wisdom is how we draw meaning from that story.

Let me share a story…

After the birth of my last child in 2015, a non-cancerous uterine fibroid that I had previously been monitoring began to grow again. Doctors assured me it would shrink, but instead, it continued to expand—and eventually multiplied into many—over the years.

When it was removed in May 2025, it weighed nearly five pounds—so large that I appeared to be ten months pregnant.

For nearly a decade, I lived in a body that felt foreign to me.

I had always worn fitted clothes. I was used to being a size 2 or 4. My identity—at least the one I had always known—was rooted in that body. Yet, that version of me no longer existed.

That shift didn’t come all at once. It came through slow, humbling lessons:

Resilience showed up every day I chose to face the mirror and live fully anyway.

Curiosity led me to ask what this experience might be trying to teach me.

Creativity allowed me to redefine how I saw myself, beyond numbers or appearances.

Humility reminded me that none of us are immune to change—and we are not our outward form.

Spirituality helped me see the timing as a blessing. Had this happened earlier, I may not have been able to have children. (Now, I have four beautiful, healthy kids)

We don’t often choose the circumstances that challenge our identity.

The loss of a role, a shift in status, changes in the body, how we’re perceived or who we thought we were meant to be.

But Wisdom gives us the tools to evolve— in body, in heart and in our souls.

What part of you is being asked to shift?

And what might Wisdom be trying to teach you through that change?
