Imagination: The Power of Creativity

Imagination: The Power of Creativity

Have We Forgotten How to Imagine?

This week many of us will celebrate Halloween, a night built on creativity. It lets us dress up and be anyone we want.

Halloween got me thinking about creativity. Most of us think of it as something we make with our hands, but it also lives in the mind. A strong imagination can be a powerful influence in your life.

Your imagination is not limited by space and time, and it is unique to you. So much of our world began in someone’s imagination: the light bulb, the combustion engine, AI. The list goes on.

So, I urge you to imagine. Use this mental muscle, and it will get stronger.

Think back to when you were a kid. You had a strong imagination. As life and responsibilities took over, you may have lost that sense of magic.

Do you remember spending hours playing?

How a plain cardboard box became a cave the moment you climbed inside? How you could spend an afternoon imagining different worlds, creating stories, and turning ordinary things into something extraordinary?

Reignite that sense of wonder and imagination.

As adults, we can become too focused on what is practical, what is possible, and what needs to get done. We may even stop imagining because we become consumed with perfectionism and fear.

This week, take a moment to let your mind wander. Imagine something you would like to create, a place you would like to go, or a change you would like to make in your life. You do not have to act on every idea. Just give yourself permission to explore it.
